This stunning hand carved fruit wood tablet portrays the lovers Rama & Sita in a tropical forest as described in the Epic Ramayana Hindu Saga. Rama & Sita the Loving husband and wife of hindu lore are the two lovers of the Ramayana Epic poem, kind of the Romeo & Juliet of Hindu literature. Sita is kidnaped by Ravana the evil king and brought to his island kingdom, Lanka. Rama & Lakshmana enlist the help of Hanuman the White Monkey General to rescue Sita from Ravana's lair. Please take a moment to look at the workmanship in this piece, the depth of it, and the sheer quality.
Even the sides are carved, the jungle vegetation at the foot, the overhead tree detail is incredible. This is a very nice-rare panel from Indonesia. Well lit, this sculptural panel will draw much attention. Currently setup to mount on the wall but these pieces could be used in a variety of ways to provide a wonderful a point of interest to any interior setting.Condition is very good for age with some expected minor losses. Change in color of photos are due to lighting tconditions to show depth of carving. Approximately 18" x 12" x 1 1/2 thick.
