We offer a mid century carved folk art panel by the noted Mexican wood carver and sculptor Ignacio Flores Arias. The carved panel depicts two women and a child. The panel is signed at the lower right corner "Arias". The carved panel measures 9 3/4" in width, 9 3/8" in height, and 1 in depth. The carved panel is presented in very good vintage condition.
Arias was a noted wood carver known for his small sculptures and wood panels depicting the indigenous Mexican culture. He was a contemporary artist to Frida Kahlo in the 1940s and 1950s. His later years found him instructing wood carving at the Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Arte in Mexico City. In 1985, Arias curated an exhibition on sculpture and authored the adjoining catalogue "Reminiscencias escultoricas de la Escuela Mexicana: Ignacio Flores Arias : Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Arte, Foro de las Artes, Julio-Agosto, 1985".
