EVELYN ACKERMAN 1959 St. George & The Dragon WOOD CARVED BAS-RELIEF ART PANEL

  

Rare 1959 Evelyn & Jerome Ackerman. This piece measures 32.5" tall x 8" wide, and is ready to be hung now. An example of this carving can be found on the Ackerman Modern web page, where. It is explained that this "St George and the Dragon" design, and "Adam and Eve", were the Ackerman's first group of carvings which were all carved by hand.

Then after learning how time consuming the process was, they then sought out a machine to increase production. Overall this piece is in excellent vintage condition. I did not attempt to clean the wood at all, and I will leave that choice up to the next owner.

There is a little bit of dust that has settled in the nooks / crannies over the years, very very minor surface scuffs might be found in places, and it looks like the tiniest bit of maybe paint overspray can be found on the bottom end of this piece (see photos). This wood panel would clean up very nicely with some oil and steel wool, if you wanted to do so. Personally, I think this piece is just fine as is!! I did not find any large chips, cracks, breaks, gouges, etc... Also, if you are zooming in on the photos, please do take note in looking closely at the details, so you can indeed see that this piece was obviously hand carved by the artist.
