Chinese Vintage Carved Wood 13 Gilt Panel Temple Battle Scene Horses Warriors

  
The overall size of this piece is 13 1/4" wide x 13 1/2" tall. The carved wood section is about 12" tall x 11 1/2" wide. The carving is about 1 7/8 deep. Most of it is carved wood, but there are also some thin lattice pattern pieces added on for some of the background, columns, and banisters. I assume the horse reins are also not made out of wood. This panel is extensively carved with three warriors on horseback and eight more on foot, in the surroundings of a temple with columns, roofs, and trees. I found two warriors that had a sword or weapon of some sort that is missing, pointed out with arrows in the photos.

There is also a piece attached to the back of a warrior on horse that is loose. The wood has several cracks and the thinner wood around the gilt is slightly warped. The back also has the "pi" sign carved into it. The red lacquer was wiped down to remove the dust and dirt, and the lacquer retains evidence of that.
