This elaborately carved piece may have been part of a wall or screen, or from some other similar type of architectural element. This carving is suitable for hanging and also can sit on a flat surface if preferred. It's made of wood; perhaps some type of exotic softwood. The wood appears to have been hand carved, with the coloring hand applied as well. This carving measures approximately 17 inches tall and about 13 inches wide.
The piece is about 3 inches thick. It is made of wood with slightly splotchy red coloring or stain. Much of the carved decoration on the front and back has heavy gold coloring. Any spots in the photos are just camera flash glare.
The carving does not appear to be marked and there is no indication of where this piece originated. It seems likely to be Asian; perhaps Chinese or maybe from Indonesia, Bali or the like. This carving is in good condition with, other than noted, no damage or problems. There are some cracks, including an easy-to-see crack that runs along the vertical center line, and the panel has wear consistent with its age and nature.
It looks like you would expect it to be. The photos provide a good indication of the condition. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
