Beautiful large antique French wall panel made of hand carved walnut wood, dating to the late 19th century. Featuring deep bas relief carvings and Neo-Renaissance style motifs. To the center is an oval medallion with a scene of the Greek goddess Athena holding a spear and olive branch.

She is depicted standing on the battlefield among fallen shields and banners. Framed by stylized foliage and decorative elements.

A pair of carved caryatids flank the sides of the panel. Surmounted by a pediment with gadroon edging, rosette and scalloped shell details. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. There is an age-related crack in the center. There are two nicks in the decorative detail, one located on the trim framing the central oval medallion and one on the upper right volute.
