Antique Chinese High Relief Wood Carving Furniture Cabinet Frieze 20 by 5.5 in

  

We offer for your consideration this antique Chinese high relief wood carving. This beautiful Chinese wood carving has two panels bordered foliage/ plants. This piece, was at one time, covered almost entirely in gold leaf, traces of the gold leaf can still be seen remaining over the red lacquer base coating.

The panel or scene on the left looks to be a gentleman of means entertaining two females. The panel or scene on the right looks to be an older gentleman who has just walked through the doorway and greeting an unseen figure that might have been on shelf in front of him. There is evidence that something has broken away and missing from this scene. This panel is approximately 20 inches wide, and approximately 5 1/2 inches tall, from back to front the panel is approximately 1 1/2 inches thick. The panel has two mount lips, one on the top, and one on the bottom, they may have fit into slots on a larger piece of very ornate furniture.

But this panel is so beautifully carved, the work stands on it's own. It would make a wonderful decorative accent piece. This is an antique and there are some issues, we mentioned the loss of the gold leaf, The missing feature in the right scene, but there are some pieces of wood that have cracked and fallen away from the front bottom edge.
