Beautiful carving of pair of game birds, tied with a Louis XXVI style ribbon. The birds are finely carved and richly colored.
Mounted on the original wood panel used to display the birds. Likely as part of a larger wooden display, cabinets, door or wall panel. The carving is secured onto the panel with what appears to be hand made screws.
The panel measures 15 1/2" x 21 7/8". It is crudely mounted in much more recent frame. This will look much better professionally mounted in a more suitable frame. I believe the wood is Walnut, or a similar hardwood. Similar carvings have been attributed to the Black Forest region of Germany. Probably sometime in the 19th century. I imagine this was displayed in a hunting lodge.
