Antique 19th C Chinese Hand Carved Gold Gilt Wood Temple Wall Panel Plaque 3D. Antique early 19th Century, (possibly older) hand carved Chinese gilt wood plaque. Most likely from a shrine or temple or possibly as a theater for puppets. It is carved in a full relief style in that there are 3 layers to the image with columns and arches to give the sense of architectural depth and space.
It is carved in various layers with geometric and natural foliage designs with a pair of figures that appear to be walking in a garden. The figures may be allusions to the various Buddha lives of Buddha, as there are symbols of Buddhism throughout the imagery. It is painted red and then gilt. It appears to be signed?
On the side with a black Chinese character. Measurements: 17 x 24 x 4 inches. Weight: 4 lbs 15 ounces.Condition: Condition is commensurate with age and loss. There are scuffs and minor losses throughout. There are some losses on the upper left side and the top cover.
