A mahogany or similar hardwood carved Dogon granary door, Mali. Two piece panel, strapped together, with four layers of carvings in relief; the uppermost being a group of figures, to the left being a figure on a throne; the second layer looks is a grouping of animals, with border artwork; the lower two layers again being figures, some with masks, the lower layer seems to be people and animals in action. The sides are carved with pierced triangular peaks, vertically raised. The lower left (looking at the door) section is damaged, as photographed.
Outers have a snake, lizards and other creatures on each side. 48cm x 59cm excluding hinges, weight 4.25kg.
