Antique Indian Hindu temple wood panel Vishnu Lakshmi hand carved painted
Antique Indian Hindu temple wood panel. Hand carved and painted wood panel from a Hindu temple, featuring 5 figures W39 x H15 x D3.5 cm. Vishnu is to the centre, blue skin, two armed and playing his flute, in a headdress with radiant yellow and red halo, red pantaloons and green cloak.
Flanking him are two female musicians or dancers (possibly Lakshmi), bare chested with yellow skin and headdresses, red ornamentation, and blue pants. The outer figures are a praying man praying on the left, and a red skinned drummer on the right.They are flanked by decorative multi-coloured pillars. The whole is bordered in a yellow textured frame with green flowers to the top corners, which suggests that this is a self-contained and complete piece. I was advised it originates from South India. It is in good condition, with scuffing and loss to the paint. There is a modern small brass hook for hanging to the back.
