Antique Chinese Carved Wooden Panel Description and Item Information Up for sale is this beautiful, antique Chinese wooden panel. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This panel is made from wood which has been carved with a naturalistic scene of birds resting on the branches of a blooming tree.

The front side of the carving is polychrome painted. The carved central area is surrounded by a simple wooden frame. Atop this wooden frame is a decorative brass piece which may be used to hang this on a wall.

This panel is approximately 40 1/2 inches in height (excluding the brass hanging mechanism). It is about 12 5/16 inches wide, and the frame is approximately 1 inch thick.

Unpacked, this piece weighs about 7 pounds 10 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of antique Asian decorative arts. Identification This Chinese panel is unmarked. The exact age of the carved panel is not known, but it is believed to be antique.

The frame may be more recent than the carved panel. The carved panel was probably originally part of a door or other architectural element. Condition This piece looks very good overall, with light wear. To the polychrome side, there is some surface wear and finish flaking, with a few small chips to the carving.

There are some splits / cracks to the wood, which are more visible on the back side than on the polychrome side. The back side has some edge chipping; there is a small drill hole to the back (see Photo 11).
